DON GIOVANNI

We were asked to take the opera story of Don Giovanni, and manipulate into a different story (but keeping to the same general structure and course of events). I chose to give it a dark fairytale esq twist, using authors such as Angela Carter as inspiration.

DRAWINGS

Seemed only fair to put a selection of drawings up, especially as I am technically under the Illustration pathway. These are from a combination of uni projects, commissioned work, and personal sketch books.

MY LETHABY x RVCA x COLETTE PARIS

I was approached with the opportunity to sell some work at Colette in Paris, for 'Don't Call It Cool' exhibition, by David Mushegain. I was asked to created a book/zine based on the 'My Lethaby' animation shown below.

MY LETHABY

'My Lethaby' is another stop-motion animation, this time in collaboration with Fee Greening. Being the last year to study in the CSM building at Southampton Row, we were asked to create a piece of Moving Image in response to the Lethaby Building. We decided to take the slant that it was not only the visible signs of use on the structure itself that made the building, but the people, and work, that has been produced there over the years. Creating a building and atmosphere, which was then constantly changing and developing over time. By using a combination of old archive images, drawings, and photography we wanted to illustrate this idea. 

THE INFORMATION

'Nerves are like Wires' is a short stop-motion animation produced for a live brief through uni. Harper Collins approached CSM BAGD students with the opportunity to create a piece of moving image, which could potentially be published in the enhanced e-Book, 'The Information', by James Gleick.

The brief was to take a section of the book, and visualize it, enabling the reader to grasp some of the heavier concepts discussed. I worked with Alexandra Hook on this, focusing on the topic of nerves being like wires. We received extremely positive feedback throughout the process, and ended up being teams chosen to have our work published.

B&W PORTRAITS

B&W portraits produced for a 2nd year photography project. The girl is Marlowe Tatiana Granados, you can check out her work here. The guy is the Tom Dutton, a.ka. TPFD - you can check out his soundcloud here. My photography tutor said it they were a bit Corinne Day. I think he was trying to give constructive criticism, but I love her too much.

THE JOURNEY

Our brief was to illustrate a journey of any kind in 7 images. What that could be was entirely up to us. I ended up choosing to follow a fox, from the depths of the countryside, to the midst of the city. Instead of taking a fictional ‘disney’ slant, I wanted to show what the reality of this could entail. The images themselves were created by making gestural paint marks on scraps of paper, blotting them on other surfaces, then collaging these together to create the backgrounds. The foxes are monoprints, which were then scanned in and superimposed on top of the backgrounds to create the final images. Above is a selection of my favourite final prints.

MY EYE MY VISION

My Eyes My Vision was a second year project, with the brief asking us to create a 3 minute moving image piece based on how we see the world around us. I have a slightly embarrassing habit, where I think that my life is actually directed by Woody Allen. Using film references, instead of first hand experience, to relate to, and deal with current events. I therefore created a film montage of footage from the various films I have watched throughout my life. Editing them in such a way as to detail the last 23 years, and what is possibly to come in future.
